About the Winemaker

Transcendence to Wine

“Victor Schoenfeld is a thoroughly Californian figure… He exudes the kind of easy informality that masks formidable technical mastery and an intense competitive drive.”– Deborah Sontag and William A. Orme Jr., The New York Times

In the creative and skillful hands of our winemakers, grapes are not merely made into wine; they are transcended to a higher form.
To capture the terroir—the truest measure of a grape’s unique signature—our winemakers must be an equal combination of alchemists and artists.

This labor of love falls into the hands of our winemaking team, lead by Chief Winemaker Victor Schoenfeld.
Mr. Schoenfeld’s passion for quality and insistence on standards lead him to be considered one of the architects of the revitalized Israeli wine industry.
He and his team bring a wellspring of winemaking experience from California, France, Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina.

Schoenfeld’s philosophy is that
“high quality is not enough…wine is most interesting when it is a reflection of a certain place.”

With his winemaking team, he has been responsible for the winery’s reputation as a producer of world-class wines and for winning numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals in international competitions.

His greatest achievement thus far is winning “Best Bottle-Fermented Sparkling Wine, Worldwide” (Yarden Blanc de Blancs 1997) at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London in 2003.
